Right Angle Prism
Right-Angle prisms are
commonly used to achieve a 90° or 180° light path bend. Depending
on prisms orientation, images will be inverted, but correct
left-to-right. If the prism is rotated 90°, images viewed through
the prism will be erected, but reversed left-to-right. This prism
can also be used in combination for image/beam displacement applications.
Conventional material used for fabricating Right Angle Prism is BK7
glass. BK7 prisms are applicable in the visible and near IR
applications. For UV, infrared and thermal sensitive applications,
Fused Silica Prism is recommended.
Anti reflection coated (AR coating) can be coated on all
surfaces to reduce surface losses without affect affect total internal
reflection or the acceptance angle.

The hypotenuse
image is erected and reversed. |
180° deflection uses with hypotenuse as the entrance and
exit face. The main application is as a retro-reflector provided
that the plane of incident beam includes the vertex. |
